The specialist said her baby had suffered a stroke, would likely never walk, would probably be developmentally delayed and she should just “learn to live with it”. Helene Louise was completely devastated but in her heart, she could not reconcile the limitations placed on her smiling baby with the intelligence she saw in those bright eyes.
Drawing inspiration from her childhood heroes and applying seemingly unrelated life experiences like working as a flight attendant and learning to play the piano, Helene helped her daughter become a vibrant young girl with a future as bright as anyone else's. And, within the struggles, ultimately found a sense of healing and resolution, realizing that even the most difficult situations can eventually bring something positive.
